Travel Food Diaries
I know it’s been a while since I popped on here but its been quite an eventful summer season, If you follow my social media you can see what i’ve been up to. What did you you do? Anything new? Something Exciting?
I’m putting together this blog to show that keeping your health on track whilst on the road can be done! (this one will be food related if you want a holistic view on what supplements / nutrients I travel with; then let me know and share this post)
Photos below are from my most recent trip in Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Mauritius. So here we go…
How to eat well whilst travelling or on the go
To enjoy your holiday / business trip / travels and consume your food (as natural medicine). That clean fuel will help your brain and body feel great. I’ll never forget when someone told me that walking into a supermarket or restaurants is the same as visiting a natural pharmacy ! Understanding your cravings and wellbeing is really important and I talk more about this here https://www.coconutandwhat.com/search?q=fasting+
When I’m not out of the country, I like to eat at home as much as possible, it can save money and reduce my excess salt, oil and sugar (SOS) intake by a lot! Meal prepping, bag snacks or simply waiting until I’m home has become very normal. If you practice Intermittent fasting this should also come easily to you.
It would also be helpful to know your whereabouts. Get the relevant phone apps. Talk to communities - there are so many free forums with first hand reviews. Screen shot the places and you’ll be good to go. If you want recommendations on forums or apps let me know.
I always make sure to pack a breathable soft bag full of goodies of which I separate some into my carry on and the rest into checked luggage. Pre-order a healthy in-flight meal so you don’t feel bloated and groggy when you arrive. Check with the hotel and see what they recommend in the area / in-house as well, our breakfast came with the hotel room rate so it was great to grab fresh fruit, nuts, seeds and hot tea.
Somethings in the soft bag would include:
Protein bars (really good quality ones)
Dry miso paste
Assortment of decaf tea
Greens / protein powder
Nut butter crackers
Almond mylk powder
Dried coconut, seeds, mulberries
Small Blender bottle
Dried broad beans
Large stainless steel bottle
Reusable zip locks
Freeze dried veg and fruit is also fantastic (mushroom and broccoli is my favourite)
*Just check with the country you are travelling to before taking in food
These are some things I (we) found (and consumed) along the way:
Are you drooling yet???? As you can see there was no compromise, we didn’t miss out on anything and there are many more pictures but I didn’t want to take up all the data on your phone.
I’ll be travelling overseas today and will update you on IG on what I find along the way : https://www.instagram.com/coconutandwhat/
I wrote a post similar many years ago and have got some great updates for you. https://www.coconutandwhat.com/blog/2016/07/12/how-to-eat-well-whilst-traveling-abroad?rq=travel
It also helps of course to pick up key words in the local language for your dietary preferences and even more importantly with allergies.
Message me if you have any questions! Happy next travels !
